i’m not naive to the extent to assume human are selfless. It’s not selfish/selfless. It is a whole spectrum from selfish on one extreme to selfless in the other extreme. It does not only vary from people to people, but also from cases to cases. The whole idea is not to lock the content and without paying one can’t enjoy it, but the content is there to enjoy, if you appreciate, you have an easy way to pay. Your framework tend to see content as a commodity, i “used” it already so i don’t have to pay . But content consumption is more than that. There is usually a tie between reader (let’s assume it’s an article) and the writer, even if they don’t know each other. Finish reading/watching/listening does not necessarily mean the end of the experience. To fit this into your framework, pay after reading an article is not exactly a “post”paid, cos the tie is there, the reader wants more from the author.

From another angle, under your framework, 1. assume human are selfish; 2. if i have means to consume the content without paying, i won’t pay; 3. as we both know, DRM is never perfectly secure, people are able to find ways to consume pirated version instead. 4. no one will pay. Of course this is not the case. So we know it’s not just a factor (selfish vs selfless) which affects the payment behaviour. Convenience, showing support, moral standard, culture, education, every factor counts. i don’t believe LikeCoin would make everyone pay for content, and that’s never been the target. As far as tipping is concerned, we only want to enable generous people to pay easily. And if we succeed, that’s big and good enough.
